Conference Hall at the Camera di Commercio (Trapani)

Great success and public participation for the congress on environment and tourism titled “the future is now” promoted and organized by the Tapani Adiconsum - Associazione Difesa Consumatori e Ambiente [Association in defence of consumers and environment]- with its responsible Giovanni Robino.

The congress took place in the prestigious center of the Trapani Camera di Commercio [Trade Chamber] that gave its partnership together with Cisl - Confederazione Sindacati lavoratori di Trapani [Trapani's Confederation of workers Syndicates] in a crowded conference hall, had as purpose making the citizens aware on themes like the sparing energy and tourism seen as an economical social and cultural chance, both for the Trapani's Provincia and for the entire Sicily.

“Themes like tourism, the respect of the environment, of the alternative renewable sources, must be treated all at once – said Giovanni Robino who is also responsible for the national Adisconsum, in the field of health – they cannot be treated separately. “Future is now” must not be read as a slogan, but as a conceptual force. I believe that by now we can no more conjugate verbs in future tenses, but in present; this is the time to act, not to say. This is the strong message we want to deliver today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow.”

Right with this spirit so strong and enthusiastic that works had begun, on economical social and cultural opportunities, and also on the diffusion of alternative sources of energy. Precious had been the contribution given by the President of Trapani's Commerce Chamber, Pino Pace, in collaboration with Giovanni Marino general secretary of Trapani's Cisl, Pietro Giordano representative of Adiconsum, Diego Carpitella Secretary of Trapani's Commerce Chamber, Giuseppe Liuzza Director of the Institute I.P.S.S.A.R,of the Erice's Istituto alberghiero “Ignazio e Vincenzo Florio”, The journalist Rita Sanvincenti, editor of the magazine Aurora, and professor at the Università degli Studi Florence, the expert in the field of energy spare Renato Cremonesi, and Salvatore Alestra, ATO's managing director .

New strategies had been presented and concrete development and communication perspectives of projects which are already in progress, born in the Trapani surroundings. Among these “Dalla Pubblica Amministrazione virtuale alla Pubblica Amministrazione virtuosa” [“from a virtual Public Administration to a virtuous Public Administration], a research on the quality of the services given by the Public Administration in the Trapani provincia, realized by Adiconsum with the collaboration of the magazine Aurora. This research is the first in its genre and is a perfect example of the daily care given to the citizens by Adiconsum in the respect of the citizen and environment's rights, but also in the realization of projects intended to improve the existence in the society.

On the themes of the congress there had been also speeches by the President of Trapani Provincial Council Giuseppe Poma, the mayor of Alderice Camillo Iovino, Erice's mayor Giacomo Tranchisa, ATM's President Riccardo Saluto and Paolo Salerno, President of “terziario avanzato” of Assindustria Trapani.

In a region like Sicily, so full with history and culture, in which though the structures for tourists are very little developed, where the lack of infrastructures, the monopoly of some brands, the lack of private investments, the culture of illegality and the consequent exploitation of black work and therefore fiscal evasion, are partly the cause of the little productiveness and creation of richness in the whole territory, maybe synergy might be the solution to this problem. A change is possible, as Giordano agrees, but to do so “there's the need of a great deal for the development; it is necessary to create synergies (…) between the good forces of this society, starting from Trapani and realizing a deal for the development between the forces of the syndicate associations, with industries, with civil society (…) because we have everything we need”.
