BESTIARIO/VESTIARIO AT PALAEXPO IN ROME

Wednesday 25 January 2012

“I spent my childhood surrounded by illustrated children’s books where animals appeared dressed as humans. My first trip to the zoo (I was four or five at the time) threw me off: I decided that all the animals in the zoo were naked” – This is the base concept of Vladimir Radunsky’s work exposed at Palaexpo in Rome.

Until February 5th, in a special space dedicated to children, you can visit for free the exhibition BVestiario (Italian acronym from beast and clothing). Russian illustrator Radunsky, now living between Rome and New York, worked for a new book, printed in Italy by Donzelli Editore, where he tells the story that is at the base of this incredible gallery of dresses. Following the red wire of two rabbit-tailors, he creates little tales where animals need their dress to be made for their everyday life, for their sports and their work. And what you can read and see in the illustrations, you can also view, in real size, in the exhibit: from the two elegant liveries worn by the pigeons of Ritz Hotel in Paris, to the tail covers used by the team of rugby playing tigers.

The great quality of the fabrics chosen and the good cutting of each shape, together with the tales in the book, are a starting point for activities dedicated to children who come in visit. In scheduled dates and in the weekends, families and schools can spend an afternoon with their children and student, playing with their fantasy and, supported by the specialized team, recreate the dresses and new stories for the animals.

Not only a chance to learn something new, but also a way to do a funny activity in a city full of art that can be watched, everyday, with new eyes.
